Cueing up for the holidays with  a pool table

Tired of those boring holiday get-togethers with family and in-laws? Are Christmas carols and stale egg nog getting to be a little much? Why not spruce up the holiday cheer with a new pool table?

A pool table can turn any holiday gathering or social event into an evening of fun and games for all (of course, you can still play your favorite Christmas music on the stereo as you cue up for a game of 9-ball).

We probably don't have to mention all the great holidays where a pool table can come in handy, but we'll mention a few anyway: New Years, Memorial Day, Labor Day, birthdays and the Fourth of July.

Billiard history and quick facts

I have read that the game of pool evolved from a lawn game - a type of French type of croquet. A large ball would pushed around the lawn with wooden maces. Apparently   French Royalty doesn't like sweating. Because they created an indoor version of the the croquet game. A table with pockets to shoot the balls into. In order to keep the connection to the lawn, the game table was covered with green felt to symbolize grass. Ahhh! Royalty!

I prefer to think of billiards as a working man's game. However, the game of pool has proven to be one suited to all types of people.

when I was growing up a pool hall was a place with a neon bar light hanging over the many pool tables with rock music blaring in the background.
